In the current context of ecological and digital transitions, the Environment team relies on skills and developments in nuclear physics and particle physics to explore scientific questions at the heart of societal challenges. Within multidisciplinary national and international collaborations, the team explores how the ionizing radiation present in storms, volcanoes or mineral springs impacts living organisms. Radioactive disequilibria are also used to better understand the dynamics of volcanic eruptions. For these fundamental studies, the team develops an innovative instrumentation from the sensor to the cloud in partnership with the technical services of the LPC.
